A bipartisan group of House members, led by Reps. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Michael C. Burgess (R-TX), and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), reintroduced the “Audit the Pentagon Act of 2015” on Feb. 12, 2015.
The bill is H.R. 942. It is the only bill in Congress endorsed by the Audit the Pentagon Initiative. Info on Congress.gov
Initiative Dirctor Rafael DeGennaro participated with a bipartisan group of members of Congress for a press event at the Capitol on July 17, 2014. Representatives Burgess, Benishek, Lee and Schakowsky announced they had introduced the same day HR 5126, the “Audit the Pentagon Act of 2014”.
Reps. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Michael C. Burgess (R-TX), Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Dan Benishek (R-MI) introduced HR 5126, “The Audit the Pentagon Act of 2014” on July 17, 2014. The Audit the Pentagon Act of 2014 would slightly reduce spending for any military department or defense agency whose spending the previous year is unauditable. Any savings go to deficit reduction.
22 Diverse organizations endorse Burgess/Lee NDAA amendment
On May 21, 2014, an ideologically diverse coalition of 22 organizations called on the House to accept 8 amendments to the Defense Authorization bill for fiscal year 2015. Among the amendments endorsed was #87, the Burgess/Lee Audit the Pentagon amendment. See letter (2-page PDF).
To be clear, these 22 organizations endorsed the Burgess/Lee amendment, not the broader initiative
Update: The House passed the Burgess/Lee amendment May 21 as part of en bloc #5. Thank you to Reps. Burgess and Lee, and all the organizations that supported this!
